Maine musicians collaborate to help end hunger in Maine

Maine writers, Maine painters, Maine photographers --- they've claimed the spotlight for years in the Maine Celebrity Artist category.   But as this album shows, Maine has been the inspiration for musicians who have achieved national, international, and in one notable case beyond-the-planet reputations. These 26 artists between them account for more than 200 million records sold, 25 Grammy Awards, and 50 top ten hits throughout the world. Some artists are from Maine, some are From Away. Some names you will recognize immediately and some will perhaps be a surprise find. But they all have in common a deep and abiding love of the State of Maine, her people, and her traditions. And they have used that love of Maine to inform and shape their music over a lifetime.

In the generosity of spirit so evident in Maine, these artists have now contributed their work to this album for a very good cause. The sale of each CD will help fund the Maine Credit Union League's Ending Hunger Campaign. This year, more than ever, there are hard times and empty cupboards in many Maine homes. Working with food assistance programs throughout the state, the producers of The Amazing Music of Mainers hope to provide one million meals to Maine families from the sales of this album.

This two-disc compilation includes a booklet filled with stories of the artists' backgrounds, their musical histories, and their connection to Maine. And in it you will find the answer to this question ....... What Maine musician had a copy of his hit album carried into space by the Apollo 17 lunar mission astronauts, making it the first recorded song ever played on the moon?

Think how many Mainers on your Christmas gift list would welcome this new collection.  And how wicked good you would feel about giving it to them AND helping fill those empty kitchen cupboards all around Maine.
